HOUSE BILL NO. 2530 Offered January 16, 2009 A BILL to require certain secondary school teachers to complete a course on the current structure and historic development of the local and state governmental organization and function in the Commonwealth of Virginia. ---------- Patron-- Marsden ---------- Referred to Committee on Education ----------

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1.  § 1. That the Board of Education shall amend its regulations to require that all secondary school teachers seeking initial licensure to teach history, civics, economics, social studies, and state and local government, shall complete a course on the current structure and historic development of the local and state governmental organization and function in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  This requirement may be completed up to two years after receiving initial licensure.

2.  That the Board shall promulgate regulations to implement the provisions of this act to be effective by July 1, 2010.
