GOVERNOR'S VETO
May 5, 2009
TO THE VIRGINIA HOUSE OF DELEGATES:
HOUSE BILL NO. 1919
Pursuant to Article V, Section 6, of the Constitution of Virginia, I veto House Bill 1919, which raises the daily amount that local jails are allowed to charge inmates for their incarceration.
At the reconvened session, I proposed amendments to HB 1919 and to an identical Senate bill, limiting the fee to three dollars per day. The General Assembly approved that amendment to the Senate bill, but rejected the same amendment to HB 1919.
Accordingly, I veto House Bill 1919.
