WHEREAS, the 2008 Gretna High School softball team capped an outstanding season by winning its first Virginia High School League Group A state softball championship before an enthusiastic crowd on June 7, 2008; and

WHEREAS, the Region B champion Lady Hawks team won a decisive victory over James River High School, 3 - 0, in the semifinals; and

WHEREAS, led by outstanding pitcher Teresa Dalton, who had 13 strikeouts, Gretna High School shut out Glenvar High School in the state final matchup by a score of 2 - 0; and

WHEREAS, despite a tough Glenvar team, freshman Nichole Mills and senior Ceseley Haynes were each able to score runs, which led their team to victory; and

WHEREAS, the entire Gretna High School team—Sarah Scruggs, Nichole Mills, Carrie Dudley, Nina Compton, Ashley Vasser, Nikki Bowler, Cheryl Crews, Teresa Dalton, Raquel Martin, Kerri Meadows, Ashleigh Meeks, Savanna Butts, Julie Reutter, and Ceseley Haynes—worked hard and made significant contributions throughout the season and the championship games; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2008 Lady Hawks is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Coach Ketina Brooks and her staff; and the support of the parents, student body, faculty, and leadership of Gretna High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Lady Hawks from Gretna High School on their outstanding 2008 season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Ketina Brooks as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the 2008 Gretna High School softball team.
