WHEREAS, Edward J. Evers is recognized for his 30 years of service as the executive director of the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy; and
WHEREAS, a native of New York, Edward Evers worked for the New York State Police until his retirement due to an on-the-job injury; and
WHEREAS, moving to Virginia in 1978, Edward Evers became the executive director of the newly organized Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy, a regional training academy for law-enforcement officers, jail officers, and communication officers; and
WHEREAS, an exemplary administrator, Edward Evers oversaw the growth of the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy from a staff of two in the basement of a bank to a staff of over 14 with a campus in Fredericksburg and satellite locations in Middletown and at the Hanover County sheriff’s office; and
WHEREAS, during Edward Evers’ tenure as director, Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy has graduated 102 law-enforcement basic classes, 137 jail officer basic classes, and 86 communication officer classes; and
WHEREAS, Edward Evers has received numerous awards during his outstanding career, including Policeman of the Year by the Adirondack Regional Police conference; Man of the Year by the Fredericksburg Fraternal Order of Police; and Man of Vision by the Virginians Aligned Against Sexual Assault; and
WHEREAS, committed to community service, Edward Evers has served as a senior officer with the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad, as a member of the Rappahannock Rotary Club, and as a member of the board of directors of the Fredericksburg Optimist Club; and
WHEREAS, Edward Evers looks forward to continuing his community service and spending time with his wife, Charlotte, and their four children and their families after his retirement from the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Edward J. Evers on his 30 years of outstanding service as the director of the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Edward J. Evers as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his service and best wishes on his future endeavors.
