WHEREAS, the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy is recognized for its extraordinary service to the law-enforcement and criminal justice communities of Virginia on the occasion of its 30th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy is a regional training academy for law-enforcement officers, jail officers, and communication officers from over 60 member agencies; and
WHEREAS, opening in 1978, the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy has been led for 30 years by executive director, Edward J. Evers, who will retire this year; and
WHEREAS, Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy has grown from a staff of two in the basement of a bank to a staff of over 14 with a campus in Fredericksburg and satellite locations in Middletown and at the Hanover County sheriff’s office; and
WHEREAS, committed to excellence, the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy provides basic training and specialized training for law-enforcement officers and other criminal justice-related occupations using state-of-the-art facilities that include a driver training course and firearms training simulator room; and
WHEREAS, the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy has graduated 2,027 law-enforcement officers, 2,204 jail officers, and 1,213 communication officers from basic classes and now provides training to more than 3,000 officers each year; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy on the occasion of its 30th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the director of the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude to the organization for its vital services to the law-enforcement and criminal justice communities of Virginia and best wishes for continued success in the future.
