HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 6049
Commending Dr. Max E. Lassiter.

WHEREAS, Dr. Max E. Lassiter is recognized for his exceptional leadership and longtime service to his community and the young people of Danville; and

WHEREAS, Max Lassiter graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Wake Forest University and earned a medical degree from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and completed an internship at Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Lassiter interrupted his education to honorably serve his country for two years as a medical officer assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army and returned home to finish his medical residency in 1957; and

WHEREAS, an exemplary and compassionate physician, Dr. Lassiter established a private practice in pediatrics in Danville and dedicated his life and career to healing children and to caring for their needs, as well as the needs of their families; and

WHEREAS, a great mentor to young people, Dr. Lassiter was instrumental in founding Boy Scout Troop 354 at First Baptist Church in Danville, and he has served as a leader and tremendous supporter of the Boy Scouts of America for over 45 years; and

WHEREAS, during Dr. Lassiter’s tenure as a scout leader in Danville, 40 members of Troop 354 have earned the rank of Eagle Scout and numerous young men have benefited greatly from his knowledge and guidance; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Lassiter has received many awards and accolades over the years for his outstanding community service, but he is especially proud of the Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver honors he received as a leader of Troop 354; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Lassiter and his wife Laura are faithful members of First Baptist Church in Danville, where he has served as a deacon and as chair of the Deacon’s Board; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Dr. Max E. Lassiter on his outstanding leadership and service to his community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dr. Max E. Lassiter as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his dedication to the well-being of the young people of Danville and the Commonwealth.
