2008 SPECIAL SESSION II
WHEREAS, the 2008 Jamestown High School boys’ soccer team capped an outstanding season by winning the school's second Virginia High School League Group AA state soccer championship before an enthusiastic crowd at Cupp Stadium at Radford University on June 7, 2008; and
WHEREAS, the Jamestown Eagles beat defending state champion Blacksburg High School in the semifinals in a close match (2 - 1) to advance to the finals; and
WHEREAS, the Jamestown Eagles beat rival Grafton High School for the fourth time this season by scoring three goals early in the game to take home the championship; and
WHEREAS, the Jamestown Eagles had an outstanding 2008 season with senior Kramer Runager named as State Player of the Year and Coach Bobby O’Brien named as State Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, five players, Kramer Runager, Winston Mattheisen, Danny Franklin, David Rozmiarek, and Scott Cutler were named to the All-State Team; and
WHEREAS, the entire team—Tyler Runager, Danny Franklin, David Rozmiarek, Kramer Runager, Christian Waterman, Scott Cutler, Dylan Franklin, C.J. Young, J.T. Smith, Winston Mattheisen, Brian Miller, Bryan Giles, Tyler Wallace, Rodrigo Guido, Ricky Deakyne, John Tarley, Matt Kemelek, Patrick O’Brien, Trevor Davis, Myles Antonini, Matt Johnson, and Michael Wood—worked hard and made significant contributions throughout the season and the championship games; and
WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2008 Eagles is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Coach Bobby O’Brien and his staff; and the support of the parents, student body, faculty, and leadership of Jamestown High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Eagles from Jamestown High School on their outstanding 2008 season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Bobby O’Brien as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the championship performance of the 2008 Jamestown High School boys’ soccer team.
