Commending Senior Services of Alexandria on the occasion of its 40th anniversary.

WHEREAS, Senior Services of Alexandria and its dedicated volunteers and staff will celebrate the organization’s 40th anniversary in 2008; and

WHEREAS, since 1968, Senior Services of Alexandria has been serving senior residents of Alexandria with job placement opportunities, counseling, meal delivery, transportation, and money management and organizational training; and

WHEREAS, the services provided by Senior Services of Alexandria enables these individuals to maintain their independence, enhance their skills, and continue to live in their own homes; and

WHEREAS, over 40 years ago, Senior Services of Alexandria was the vision of 16 individuals who worked diligently to establish the organization; and

WHEREAS, five of the original visionaries still remain in Alexandria: Nelson Greene, Nancy Kelly, Mary Ann Ormes, Lewis Stearman, and William Vosbeck; and

WHEREAS, the volunteers and staff of Senior Services of Alexandria provide the necessary leadership and experience to help identify and resolve the concerns of the senior citizens of Alexandria; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Senior Services of Alexandria be hereby commended on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Senior Services of Alexandria as an expression of the Senate’s gratitude to the organization for its commitment to the residents of Alexandria.
