2008 SESSION
WHEREAS, Suzanne Lank, an outstanding teacher at Matthew Maury Elementary School, an Alexandria City Public School, was named Region Four Teacher of the Year on September 19, 2007; and
WHEREAS, eight regional teachers of the year are chosen each year and are then eligible for the coveted Virginia Teacher of the Year award, which is sponsored by the Department of Education in cooperation with corporate sponsors; and
WHEREAS, the Teacher of the Year program recognizes and honors teachers who represent the best in teaching across the nation and the acclaimed award winners serve as ambassadors promoting the teaching profession and quality education for all students; and
WHEREAS, a conscientious and hardworking teacher, Suzanne Lank is the literacy coach and testing coordinator at Matthew Maury Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated teacher who interacts with her students inside and outside of the classroom to create enthusiasm and self-motivation, Suzanne Lank celebrates academic achievement in special family meals with parents and their children and keeps in continuous contact with them through postcards, letters, phone calls, and home visits; and
WHEREAS, Suzanne Lank works hard to increase students’ confidence in their ability to excel and achieve their academic goals, as well as assist them to improve their study, comprehension, and testing skills; and
WHEREAS, Suzanne Lank has been instrumental in Matthew Maury Elementary School receiving full accreditation and in its students continually progressing academically under the No Child Left Behind Act; and
WHEREAS, recognized by her colleagues, parents, students, and the community as a gifted teacher who has made a tremendous difference at Matthew Maury Elementary School, Suzanne Lank was honored as the 2007 Alexandria Public Schools Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher by the Washington Post; and
WHEREAS, a talented, fair, and supportive educator and an excellent role model for her fellow teachers and the young people of the Commonwealth, Suzanne Lank epitomizes the vital role excellent teacher specialists play in the education of Virginia’s children; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Suzanne Lank on her well-deserved recognition as 2007 Region Four Teacher of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Suzanne Lank as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for her commitment to the young people of Alexandria and the Commonwealth.
