2008 SESSION
WHEREAS, Chancellor Volunteer Fire and Rescue is the 2007 recipient of the prestigious Governor’s EMS Award for Outstanding Agency recognizing over 50 years of outstanding service to the citizens of Spotsylvania County and the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, the Governor’s EMS Awards are Virginia’s highest awards honoring volunteer fire and rescue agencies and emergency medical services (EMS) professionals; and
WHEREAS, the fire company was established in 1956 as the Chancellor Volunteer Fire Department, and in 2003, the volunteer rescue squad was added to become Chancellor Volunteer Fire and Rescue; and
WHEREAS, claiming one of the best career/volunteer systems in the country, Spotsylvania County is served by a combination fire and rescue system of volunteers and career medics and firefighters; and
WHEREAS, since the company’s founding, Chancellor Volunteer Fire and Rescue has expanded to operate five agencies with approximately 300 skilled career and volunteer personnel that continually receive the most current medical emergency and preparedness training in order to offer residents the best EMS and pre-hospital services; and
WHEREAS, Chancellor Volunteer Fire and Rescue expects to complete and staff a new fire/rescue station at Salem Fields in 2008; and
WHEREAS, Chancellor Volunteer Fire and Rescue’s hardworking Support Unit also provides EMS backup and meals to firefighters responding to an incident, and supports other agencies and counties when the need arises; and
WHEREAS, Chancellor Volunteer Fire and Rescue partners with Spotsylvania County and community organizations to offer a multitude of preventative care, public health, and safety programs and activities; and
WHEREAS, Chancellor Volunteer Fire and Rescue is also very proud of its 13-year EMS veteran Eric Lasky, a full-time recovery specialist for the United States Postal Inspection Service, who is the proud recipient of the Governor’s EMS Award for Outstanding Pre-hospital Provider; and
WHEREAS, the award-winning Chancellor Volunteer Fire and Rescue maintains a progressive system that is an outstanding model for EMS companies throughout the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, the approximately 300 dedicated and enthusiastic members of Chancellor Volunteer Fire and Rescue serve their community with great pride and professionalism; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Chancellor Volunteer Fire and Rescue on its well-deserved Governor’s EMS Award for Outstanding Agency; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kevin Dillard, the administrative chief, and Dan Butler, the rescue chief, as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for Chancellor Volunteer Fire and Rescue’s more than 50 years of outstanding service to the citizens of Spotsylvania County and the Commonwealth.
