Commending the Honorable John K. Cullen.

WHEREAS, the Honorable John K. Cullen of Louisa County, esteemed citizen of the Commonwealth, will retire on July 1, 2008, after having served 14 years as circuit court judge of the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, John Cullen was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the son of Ray and Audra Cullen, graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Law, and served his country in the United States Marine Corps and in the Virginia Defense Force; and

WHEREAS, a member of the Virginia State Bar Association since 1975, John Cullen engaged in the private practice of law in Mineral and Louisa County from 1975 to 1989; and

WHEREAS, prior to his appointment as a circuit court judge, Judge Cullen served as attorney for the Town of Louisa from 1979 to 1989; assistant Commonwealth’s attorney for Louisa County from 1980 to 1984 and Commonwealth’s Attorney from 1984 to 1989; and as a judge for the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court from 1989 to 1994; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated community supporter, Judge Cullen has given his time and immense talents to many civic organizations over the years, serving as a member of the Louisa County Health Center Commission and the Committee on Excellence in Education for the Louisa County Public Schools and as a member and president of the Louisa County Lions Club; and

WHEREAS, Judge Cullen is a faithful member of the Church of the Incarnation in Mineral, where he has served as a senior warden and a Sunday School teacher and is a supporter of the church’s many missions in the community; and

WHEREAS, throughout his time on the bench, Judge Cullen has served the citizens of the Commonwealth, in matters great and small, with a unique blend of humor, intellect, common sense, and commitment to equal justice for all; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Honorable John K. Cullen for his dedication to Virginia’s judicial system, his profession, and the people of Louisa County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Honorable John K. Cullen as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his longtime public service and best wishes in all of his future endeavors.
