089301286WHEREAS, Otis Taylor, an outstanding law-enforcement officer and dedicated public servant, retired in 2008 following three decades of service to the citizens of Norfolk; and
WHEREAS, Otis Taylor joined the United States Navy in 1955 and served his country until his honorable discharge from the service in 1975; and
WHEREAS, a man of integrity and honesty, Otis Taylor began his distinguished law-enforcement career with the City of Norfolk in the position of city sergeant, which was later changed to jailer, and then deputy; and
WHEREAS, an experienced and knowledgeable law-enforcement officer, Otis Taylor retired from the City of Norfolk and was rehired the same day by the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office; and
WHEREAS, a loyal and hardworking public servant, Otis Taylor has served under three elected sheriffs, and because of his experience and high standards of excellence, he was promoted through the ranks from corporal, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, to major; and
WHEREAS, admired and respected by his fellow officers, Otis Taylor has served the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office with great distinction for 33 years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Otis Taylor on his outstanding service to his fellow citizens and the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Otis Taylor as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his many achievements and best wishes for success in all of his future endeavors.
