WHEREAS, Gregory C. Evans served as an elected member of the board of directors of the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District from 1996 to 2007 and was secretary of the board during his entire tenure; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his service on the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District board, Gregory Evans was instrumental in the creation of the Potomac Council in 1999 and was its first chair; the Council is the administrative arm of the Potomac Watershed Roundtable, a regional government-citizen forum established in 2000 to enhance communication, collaboration, and cooperation on environmental concerns, especially water quality issues, for the Potomac River watershed; and

WHEREAS, Gregory Evans served as president of the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (VASWCD) from 2004 to 2006, and he received the VASWCD Watershed Connections Outstanding Director Award for his work on behalf of the Potomac River watershed; and

WHEREAS, at the county level, Gregory Evans has served on the Fairfax County Tree Commission, twice cochaired the citizen advocacy group Park Partners, served as the Springfield District member of the Fairfax County Park Authority Board from 1991 to 1996, and helped to establish the Fairfax Chapter of the Master Naturalist Program in 2007; and

WHEREAS, Gregory Evans currently serves on a number of state and national committees, including the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation, the EPA National Drinking Water Advisory Council Benefits Working Group, the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund Advisory Committee, and the Chesapeake Bay Local Assistance Board; and

WHEREAS, a devoted conservationist who wants to see the natural resources of the Commonwealth protected and maintained for the enjoyment and well-being of future generations, Gregory Evans has been an invaluable advocate and leader on these issues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Gregory C. Evans for his 11 years of service on the board of the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Gregory C. Evans as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his commitment to soil and water conservation.
