Commending Catherine A. Belter.

WHEREAS, Catherine A. Belter served with distinction from 2000 to 2007 as the Springfield District representative to the Fairfax County School Board; and

WHEREAS, Catherine Belter served as vice-chairman of the Fairfax County School Board in 2003 and as chairman of several of the Board’s standing committees, including Human Resources, Audit, Legislation, Instruction, and Special Services; and

WHEREAS, during her tenure, Catherine Belter was the Fairfax County School Board liaison to a number of citizen advisory committees as well as to the Fairfax Partnership for Youth, and she served as vice president of the Northeastern Region of the Virginia School Boards Association for two years; and

WHEREAS, prior to joining the Fairfax County School Board, Catherine Belter had already been actively involved in education organizations, including as a member of the Virginia Advisory Committee for the Education of the Gifted, as a local PTA board member, as president of the Virginia PTA for two years, and as a member of the national PTA board of directors for 10 years; and

WHEREAS, as a former Fairfax County librarian, Catherine Belter has championed the interests and needs of children and schools in the Springfield District and recognized the importance of early reading programs for student achievement and success; and

WHEREAS, during Catherine Belter’s service to the children of Fairfax County Public Schools, she used gentle persuasion and steady perseverance to promote her vision of excellence for children everywhere; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Catherine A. Belter for her eight years of exemplary service on the Fairfax County School Board; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Catherine A. Belter as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for her commitment to the students, parents, teachers, and administrators of the Fairfax County Public Schools.
