Commending Dana Kauffman.

WHEREAS, Dana Kauffman served with distinction for three terms from 1996 through 2007 on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, representing the Lee District; and

WHEREAS, while serving on the Board of Supervisors, Dana Kauffman was also a member of the board of directors of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, which he chaired in 2005; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure as a supervisor, Dana Kauffman was instrumental in the successful adoption of significant pedestrian, safety, and transportation improvements to the Route 1 corridor, including the installation of bus shelters and the launch of REX bus service; and

WHEREAS, Dana Kauffman worked with his colleagues on the Board of Supervisors to establish the Fairfax County Committee on Aging, which was charged with developing a blueprint for services the county should provide to seniors, the fastest growing segment of the county’s population; and

WHEREAS, Dana Kauffman was also an integral part of the effort to bring Northern Virginia Community College’s Medical Education Campus to Springfield and to secure private funding to build the Laurel Grove School Museum; and

WHEREAS, committed to helping all citizens enjoy the county’s public spaces to the fullest, Dana Kauffman laid the groundwork for the creation of a handicapped-accessible tree house at Lee District Park; and

WHEREAS, Fairfax County benefited enormously from the dedication, talent, and hard work of Dana Kauffman as he embraced with zeal his role as a leader and advocate for the county and its residents; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Dana Kauffman for his 12 years of service as a member of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dana Kauffman as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for his commitment to the citizens of Fairfax County and the Commonwealth.
