SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 245 Offered February 28, 2008 Commending the Freemasons of Virginia for their many contributions to the nation and the Commonwealth. ---------- Patron-- Stolle ----------

WHEREAS, the many Freemasons who reside throughout Virginia, whose long lineage extends back to before the nation’s founding, have set an example of high moral standards and charity for all people; and

WHEREAS, the Founding Fathers of this great nation and the signers of the Constitution, most of whom were Freemasons, provided a well-rounded basis for developing themselves and others into valuable citizens of the United States; and

WHEREAS, members of the Masonic Fraternity, individually and as an organization, continue to provide outstanding public service and invaluable contributions to the nation and to the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the Masonic Fraternity continues to provide for the charitable relief and education of the citizens of the United States and the residents of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the Masonic Fraternity is deserving of formal recognition of its long history of care and giving to the citizenry and its example of high moral standards; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly recognize the many Freemasons who reside throughout the Commonwealth and honor them for their many contributions to the nation and the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Freemasons as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude to the Masonic Fraternity for its outstanding service to the citizens of Virginia.
