Commending the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

WHEREAS, in 2008, the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums celebrates 50 years of sharing the tradition of 18th-century military music; and

WHEREAS, members of the Fifes and Drums begin their education in military music as young as age 10, and through weekly practices they perfect their skills and learn about the rich history of this style of music; and

WHEREAS, the Fifes and Drums appears in more than 700 performances each year, and in addition to playing for enthusiastic crowds, the members talk with the public about the role of music in the 18th-century military; and

WHEREAS, through its captivating performances, this remarkable group of musicians has not only entertained thousands of visitors to Williamsburg, but also helped them experience a part of the history of the American Revolution; and

WHEREAS, on July 4, 2008, alumni and current members of the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums will gather in Williamsburg to celebrate this milestone, recreate past experiences, and look toward a bright future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums as an expression of the General Assembly’s best wishes for continued success.
