2008 SESSION
089171293WHEREAS, Gail C. Lyon, a dedicated and effective member of the Fairfax City Council since 2002, will step down in 2008 at the end of her third term; and
WHEREAS, Gail Lyon moved to Fairfax in 1983 and quickly became involved in educational, cultural, and recreational organizations and issues in the city; and
WHEREAS, an enthusiastic and tireless volunteer, Gail Lyon has devoted much time and energy over the years to the Country Club Hills Civic Association, Country Club Hills Recreation Association, Fairfax Police Youth Club, Cub Scouts, and Brownies as well as the parent-teacher associations of Daniels Run Elementary School, Lanier Middle School, and Fairfax High School; and
WHEREAS, Gail Lyon’s avid volunteer work was good preparation for working on the city council, where her approach as an elected official is to reach shared and collaborative decisions with her constituents; and
WHEREAS, Gail Lyon currently serves on the Human Services and Public Safety committees of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments and on Fairfax’s Retirement Plan Administrative Committee; and
WHEREAS, Gail Lyon has greatly enjoyed her years of service to the City of Fairfax and looks forward to continuing to be an active participant in the life of this wonderful community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Gail C. Lyon on her three terms of exemplary service with the Fairfax City Council; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Gail C. Lyon as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for her commitment to the citizens of Fairfax and the Commonwealth.
