Commending Peter Zaino.

WHEREAS, Peter Zaino of Midlothian is recognized for his dedication to the Special Olympics and the sport of swimming and his exemplary performance in Shanghai, China, in the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games, which were held October 2–11, 2007, and attended by 7,500 athletes from 160 countries around the world; and

WHEREAS, before an enthusiastic crowd at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in China, Peter Zaino won a gold medal in the 25M butterfly and a gold medal in the 4 x 50M relay in which he swam the butterfly, and he finished fourth in the 50M freestyle; and

WHEREAS, a committed athlete who has been competing in the Special Olympics for 25 years, Peter Zaino was a proud torch runner at the Special Olympics Virginia state games and a gold medal winner at both the state games in Virginia and Florida; and

WHEREAS, Peter Zaino attended The Quest and received a special education certificate, and he works for the corporate division of Chesterfield Employment Services; and

WHEREAS, Peter Zaino has many interests and hobbies, including bowling and dancing, and he enjoys watching live theatre, football, and videos; and

WHEREAS, a talented athlete and a shining ambassador for the United States, the Commonwealth, and his hometown of Midlothian, Peter Zaino is a friend to everyone he meets, a leader on and off the track, and an exemplary role model for his fellow athletes; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Peter Zaino on his stellar Special Olympics swimming career and his inspirational performance in Shanghai, China, in the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Peter Zaino as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of his commitment to the Special Olympics, his fellow athletes, and the sport of swimming.
