Celebrating the life of Sergeant John Carl Osmolski.

WHEREAS, United States Army Sergeant John Carl Osmolski died in Iraq on February 5, 2008, while serving his country; and

WHEREAS, a native of Eustis, Florida, Sergeant Osmolski attended Hampton Dubois Academy and graduated from Circle Christian School in Orlando; his mother and one sister live in Powhatan; and

WHEREAS, after attending Valencia Community College, Sergeant Osmolski fulfilled his desire to serve his country by enlisting in the Army in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Osmolski was a combat engineer with the 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; he had previously deployed to Afghanistan from July to November 2005 with the 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Osmolski received a number of awards and decorations for his service, including the Bronze Star Medal (posthumous), Purple Heart (posthumous), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge (basic), and Weapons Qualification Badge (rifle-expert); and

WHEREAS, a man of great faith who was very active in New Hope Presbyterian Church in Eustis, Sergeant Osmolski, who was preceded in death by his father, will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by his mother, Ruth; his sisters, Ruth and Julia; his brother, Daniel; and many other family members and friends; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Osmolski’s death is a reminder of the hazards faced daily by the thousands of Americans who serve in our armed forces overseas and whose devotion to duty places them in harm’s way; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a courageous and patriotic American, Sergeant John Carl Osmolski; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sergeant John Carl Osmolski as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of the Commonwealth.
