089140275WHEREAS, the alumni, faculty, and staff of the former Frederick Military Academy will mark the 50th anniversary of the academy’s founding in 2008; and
WHEREAS, located in the City of Portsmouth, Frederick Military Academy was named in honor of Frederick T. Beazley, father of Fred W. Beazley and grandfather of Fred W. Beazley, Jr., benefactors of the school; and
WHEREAS, the school became the realization of a dream long held by Fred Beazley to provide a school where young people could prepare themselves intellectually and morally to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world; and
WHEREAS, a private college preparatory school for grades eight through 12, with one year of postgraduate study, Frederick Military Academy offered a military program that was designed to develop character, physical fitness, and maturity, while at the same time cultivating each student’s leadership skills and self-esteem; and
WHEREAS, the academic program at Frederick Military Academy stressed excellence, and with an average student-teacher ratio of 12:1, the academy’s experienced, certified faculty and staff members were able to provide students with a great deal of individual attention; and
WHEREAS, Frederick Military Academy’s motto, “Knowledge, Truth, and Valor,” expressed the fundamental principles the school embraced; and
WHEREAS, Frederick Military Academy cadets came from all over the United States and many countries around the world, creating an environment where students could learn about different cultures and beliefs; and
WHEREAS, before Frederick Military Academy closed its doors for the final time in 1985, the school had touched, enriched, and affected the lives of more than 10,000 former students, faculty, and staff; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Frederick Military Academy family on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the school’s founding; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Frederick Military Academy Alumni Association in appreciation of the school’s dedicated service to the community and the Commonwealth.
