2008 SESSION
WHEREAS, Peter Don Rose, a gifted and beloved teacher in the Falls Church City Public Schools, died on December 14, 2007; and
WHEREAS, Peter Rose moved to Virginia from New York in 1975 and joined the Falls Church City Public Schools as an elementary school social studies teacher, where he taught for 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Peter Rose quickly distinguished himself as an extremely effective teacher and was a favorite among students at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, willing and eager to go beyond what was required of him, Peter Rose spearheaded special programs and activities at the school such as a very successful Renaissance Festival and the Safety Patrol Program; and
WHEREAS, administrators and fellow teachers were always full of praise for Peter Rose, citing his leadership, camaraderie, and ability to inspire others; and
WHEREAS, teachers and students at Thomas Jefferson were saddened when Peter Rose moved to Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School in 2005 because of a change in grade configurations in the school system, and a rose bush was planted in his honor outside the elementary school; and
WHEREAS, an upbeat person with an extraordinary ability to connect with others, Peter Rose will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by his wife, Susan; his daughters, Cynthia and Stephanie; and countless other family members, friends, colleagues, students, and former students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Peter Don Rose, an exceptional person and a talented teacher; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Peter Don Rose as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
