089061248WHEREAS, the Reston Garden Club was honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with a prestigious 2008 Best of Reston award; and
WHEREAS, the Best of Reston awards were established to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the Reston community and improving the lives of others; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1970, the Reston Garden Club has created beauty in the Reston community through its many outstanding programs and projects, and the club encourages interest in home gardening and horticultural practices, flower arranging, civic beautification, and conservation of native plants and wildlife; and
WHEREAS, the dedicated members of the Reston Garden Club have contributed and planted thousands of flower bulbs and hundreds of trees near public buildings and along roads and trails, in addition to maintaining the Bowman Towne Drive area through the “Adopt-a-Highway” program; and
WHEREAS, the Reston Garden Club also helps to educate citizens about myriad gardening and conservation topics through the club’s community education efforts, Weeder’s Digest newsletter, donations to the Reston Regional Library, and nature camp scholarship program; and
WHEREAS, the Reston Garden Club and its hardworking members have also been faithful supporters of the Walker Nature Education Center; and
WHEREAS, the Reston Garden Club and its many outstanding members have worked with great energy and dedication to help make Reston a more pleasant and beautiful place to live and work; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Reston Garden Club on its outstanding service to the citizens of Northern Virginia and on the club’s well-deserved honor as a 2008 Best of Reston award recipient; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reston Garden Club as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for its efforts on behalf of the community of Reston.
