089059348WHEREAS, United States Army Staff Sergeant Michael D. Moody, Jr., died on June 23, 2007, from wounds suffered when his unit was attacked in Baghdad, Iraq; and
WHEREAS, born in Maryland, Michael Moody spent his teenage years in Chesterfield County and graduated from Meadowbrook High School in 1994; and
WHEREAS, the son of an Army sergeant, Michael Moody enlisted in 1997 and after completing basic training and advanced individual training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, he spent a tour of duty at Schweinfurt, Germany, with a six-month combat deployment to Kosovo, Bosnia; and
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Moody was a tank commander in the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division and was on his third tour of duty in Iraq at the time of his death; and
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Moody received two Army Commendation Medals and two Army Achievement Medals during his career, and he was proudest of his recent promotion to staff sergeant; and
WHEREAS, known for his radiant smile and his strong sense of duty, Staff Sergeant Moody will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by his parents, his brother, his two young children, and countless other family members, friends, and fellow soldiers; and
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Moody’s death is a reminder of the hazards faced daily by the thousands of Americans who serve in our armed forces overseas and whose devotion to duty places them in harm’s way; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a courageous and patriotic Virginian, Staff Sergeant Michael D. Moody, Jr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Staff Sergeant Michael D. Moody, Jr., as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of the Commonwealth.
