SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 179
Celebrating the life of Dennis W. Webb.

WHEREAS, Dennis W. Webb, chief deputy of the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office and a retired law-enforcement administrator in Prince William County, died on November 10, 2007; and

WHEREAS, prior to joining the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office in 2004 as chief deputy and chief of operations, Dennis Webb had served for 22 years with the Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center as captain and director of administration; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Webb also served for five years as a deputy sheriff with the Prince William County Sheriff’s Office and founded its tactical response team; and

WHEREAS, known as an exceptional teacher, Dennis Webb was certified by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services to instruct trainers in, among other things, firearms and defensive tactics; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to his profession, Dennis Webb was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police Battlefield Lodge No. 42 and belonged to the National Sheriffs’ Association, American Jail Association, American Correctional Association, Virginia Sheriffs’ Association, and Virginia Association of Regional Jails; and

WHEREAS, always very active in his community, Dennis Webb was a lifetime member of Leadership Arlington and served for eight years on the board of directors of SERVE, an organization that provides emergency assistance to residents of Prince William County; and

WHEREAS, a devoted Red Cross volunteer, Dennis Webb served as chairman of the health and safety service committee of the Prince William Red Cross chapter and taught courses in disaster services and in health and safety; in 2001, he received the Prince William chapter’s Exceptional Service Award; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Webb will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife Linda, his sons Shaun and Brian, his mother Henrietta, and countless other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Dennis W. Webb, an outstanding public servant and a fine Virginian; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dennis W. Webb as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
