2008 SESSION
WHEREAS, Virginia Citizens for Water Quality, community watershed organizations, and Roundtables of major river basins give citizens an opportunity to bring about change in their watersheds and in the quality of Virginia’s waters; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Citizens for Water Quality (VCWQ), community watershed organizations, and Roundtables of major river basins strive to work cooperatively with all stakeholders within their local watershed and rely on voluntary contributions of time and money; and
WHEREAS, VCWQ, community watershed organizations, and Roundtables provide a conduit for agencies and their employees to interact with local engaged citizens; and
WHEREAS, Virginia’s secretariats of Natural Resources and Agriculture and Forestry have multiple important programs that strive to protect and enhance Virginia’s watersheds and water resources and, consequently, aid grassroots watershed conservation efforts; and
WHEREAS, without the substantial contribution and participation of dedicated citizens in the local implementation of the Commonwealth’s programs, the important efforts to protect and preserve local watersheds and the quality of Virginia’s waters would not be successful; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Virginia Citizens for Water Quality, community watershed organizations, and Roundtables of major river basins for their ongoing efforts to encourage citizens to participate in the quest for clean water; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Virginia Citizens for Water Quality on behalf of its many volunteers and supporters and all of the participants of community watershed organizations and Roundtables as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for its many efforts to protect clean water for the citizens of the Commonwealth.
