SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 142
Commending Leadership Arlington.

WHEREAS, Leadership Arlington was established by the Arlington Chamber of Commerce as an independent, nonprofit organization with a mission to provide a forum for leaders to partner and come together in order to strengthen the Arlington community; and

WHEREAS, Leadership Arlington’s vision for the community is an inclusive, inspired, knowledgeable, and prepared Arlington leadership that will embrace responsibility for the common good; and

WHEREAS, over the past 10 years, Leadership Arlington has encouraged local leaders to actively engage with others in the community and its dedicated and hardworking members have donated over 6,000 volunteer hours in service to the citizens of Arlington; and

WHEREAS, Leadership Arlington’s diverse membership includes leaders from business, industry, education, government, and many civic and other nonprofit organizations, working together to help the community grow and prosper; and

WHEREAS, in May 1999, Leadership Arlington’s 32-member inaugural class graduated and the organization held its first Speaker Series, which sponsored a community forum to discuss pressing public issues and develop potential topics for discussion that are of importance to residents; and

WHEREAS, Leadership Arlington also launched its Youth Program to help high school students in grades 11–12 develop leadership skills, as well as to create awareness of the importance of philanthropy, community service, and civic participation; and

WHEREAS, in 2006, Leadership Arlington developed a new program, Ethics and Leadership, with the generous sponsorship of Verizon, which incorporated ethics as an integral part of the leadership program; and

WHEREAS, through its many excellent programs and volunteer efforts, Leadership Arlington strives to build a stronger community for the citizens of Arlington, one leader at a time; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Leadership Arlington for 10 years of outstanding service to the Arlington community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Leadership Arlington as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of the organization’s many achievements and best wishes for continued success in the future.
