SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 108
Designating October 1, in 2008 and in each succeeding year, as Children’s Miracle Network Day in Virginia.

WHEREAS, Children’s Miracle Network is an alliance of premier children’s hospitals that every year treat 17 million children across the nation for every disease and injury imaginable; and

WHEREAS, Children’s Miracle Network hospitals impact the lives of more children than any other children’s organization in the world, providing state-of-the-art medical care, life-saving research, and preventive medical care education to aid children 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; and

WHEREAS, the Children's Miracle Network organization is dedicated to serving children in every community across the United States and Canada and committed to providing the best possible specialized care that children need and deserve; and

WHEREAS, Children’s Miracle Network hospitals in Virginia include the University of Virginia Children’s Hospital in Charlottesville, the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk, both the Virginia Commonwealth University Children’s Medical Center and Children’s Hospital in Richmond, the Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg, and the Carilion Medical Center for Children in Roanoke; and

WHEREAS, funding and generous contributions by Virginia’s citizens to Children’s Miracle Network organizations help provide intensive care units and other lifesaving equipment for premature babies such as isolettes, radiant warmers, pediatric monitors, and intravenous pumps; essential neonatal emergency transport vehicles and specially equipped vans; and vital resuscitation apparatus and other emergency equipment to treat sick and injured children in an emergency setting and during scheduled stays in the pediatric unit; and

WHEREAS, Children’s Miracle Network provides stay-over rooms for children’s families; friendly wallboards, videos, and games to create a child-friendly environment; and educational materials and training equipment for hospital staff and transport personnel; and

WHEREAS, a special day designated to raising awareness of the important work performed by Children’s Miracle Network hospitals in Virginia will help ensure that more children will receive the best possible medical care in the best possible facilities; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly designate October 1, in 2008 and in each succeeding year, as Children’s Miracle Network Day in Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate post the designation of this day on the General Assembly’s website.
