2008 SESSION
089282428WHEREAS, Nicole Regina White of the community of Carrollton in Isle of Wight County died tragically at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University campus on April 16, 2007; and
WHEREAS, born in Portsmouth, Nicole White moved from Carrollton to Smithfield when she was 12 and spent her life there until she left for college at Virginia Tech; and
WHEREAS, a curious and intelligent child, Nicole White always enjoyed school and was a model student at Carrollton Elementary School, Smithfield Middle School, and Smithfield High School; and
WHEREAS, Nicole White was passionate about animals and wanted to rescue any animal in distress; as a child she had a puppy and a pet parakeet, and she started riding horses when she was six years old; and
WHEREAS, Nicole White was very active in her church family, Nansemond River Baptist Church; she went on mission trips with the youth group to Tennessee and Florida and did mission work closer to home as well, reaching out to and counseling young people in need; and
WHEREAS, an amateur genealogist, Nicole White was very proud of her Irish background, and she contacted distant relatives to gather family information, which she compiled in a book along with Civil War documents passed down through the generations; and
WHEREAS, as a teenager, Nicole White continued to find new ways to serve her community; she became a certified lifeguard and a certified emergency medical technician, and she volunteered with the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad; and
WHEREAS, Nicole White threw herself into college life when she arrived at Virginia Tech, serving as webmaster for her freshman dormitory; volunteering at a women’s shelter in Roanoke, taking in the animals of women who needed to leave volatile home situations; and also volunteering at the Blacksburg animal shelter; and
WHEREAS, a loving, helpful, and compassionate person who touched the lives of many, Nicole White will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her parents, Tricia and Mike; her brother, Evan; and countless other family members and dear friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Nicole Regina White, an exceptional young woman and a fine Virginian; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Nicole Regina White as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for her memory.
