089343776WHEREAS, Inez Butler, age 109, a beloved and respected citizen of Roanoke, died on February 3, 2008; and
WHEREAS, born on August 14, 1898, in Carthage, Texas, Inez Butler was the daughter of Acie and Elizabeth Black and was the fourth of 18 children; and
WHEREAS, recognizing the importance of an education, Inez Butler earned a bachelor of education and master of education from Bishop College in Marshall, Texas; and
WHEREAS, Inez Butler dedicated 39 years to her career as a public school teacher, where she enjoyed encouraging her students to accomplish their goals and providing the necessary tools to do so; and
WHEREAS, for 84 years Inez Butler was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Carthage, where she taught Sunday school, was a member of the Missionary Society and the Council for Women in the Church, and organized the Mission Choral Group; and
WHEREAS, a leader in the community, Inez Butler proudly served on the Panola County, Texas, Welfare Board and as a watch care member of First Baptist Church, Gainsboro, in Roanoke; and
WHEREAS, Inez Butler was happily married for 63 years to her late husband, Thomas Butler, and will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her two sons, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Inez Butler, an exceptional resident of the Commonwealth; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Inez Butler as an expression of the esteem in which her memory is held by the members of the House of Delegates.
