HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 21
Celebrating the life of John Ashby Bowden, Jr.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 6, 2008

 

WHEREAS, John Ashby Bowden, Jr., of Courtland, a retired first sergeant with the Virginia State Police, died February 19, 2008; and

WHEREAS, born in Portsmouth to the late John Ashby Bowden and Mary Baldwin Bowden, John Bowden served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969; and

WHEREAS, John Bowden was a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and a police administrators training program at Northwestern University in Illinois; and

WHEREAS, John Bowden proudly served the Commonwealth as a state trooper for 25 years, retiring in 1996; and

WHEREAS, committed to the safety of his fellow citizens, John Bowden was instrumental in the development of the Emergency Vehicle Operators Course for the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads; he trained countless emergency responders in the safe operation of emergency vehicles as both an exceptional instructor and trainer at the Virginia Association of Rescue Squads’ annual Rescue College; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by his daughter, Dina, and his sister, Shirley, John Bowden will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved daughter, Jennifer, and her husband, Mark, and many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of John Ashby Bowden, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of John Ashby Bowden, Jr., as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
