WHEREAS, Mary Elizabeth McElroy Weil, Assistant to the Clerk of the House of Delegates, retired on September 1, 2007; and
WHEREAS, a native of Steubenville, Ohio, Mary Beth Weil graduated from Steubenville High School, commonly known by the name of its mascot, Big Red; and
WHEREAS, Mary Beth Weil joined the House Clerk's staff as a computer operator in 1973, became information officer in 1976, assistant journal clerk in 1999, and assistant to the Clerk of the House of Delegates in 2004; and
WHEREAS, Mary Beth Weil served under House Clerks George R. Rich, Joseph H. Holleman, Jr., and Bruce F. Jamerson and under Speakers John Warren Cooke, A. L. Philpott, Thomas W. Moss, Jr., S. Vance Wilkins, Jr., and William J. Howell; and
WHEREAS, Mary Beth Weil was a member of the American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries, assisted the Virginia YMCA Model General Assembly as a legislative staff member, and served the House Clerk's staff as leader of the Information Team; and
WHEREAS, in addition to her responsibilities conducting research and disseminating information to the public in a timely way, Mary Beth Weil developed a meticulous attention to detail while working on the Journal of the House of Delegates, the official record of the House of Delegates' sessions; and
WHEREAS, with her pleasant demeanor, strong work ethic, creativity, and thoroughness, Mary Beth Weil was a valuable asset to the Clerk’s Office and concluded over 34 years of service to the House of Delegates with distinction; and
WHEREAS, Mary Beth Weil's coworkers and associates in other legislative branch agencies will miss her warm, personable, and friendly manner, as well as her wealth of legislative knowledge; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Mary Elizabeth McElroy Weil hereby be commended for over 34 years of dedicated service to the House of Delegates; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mary Elizabeth McElroy Weil as an expression of the House of Delegates' gratitude and best wishes for a long, happy, and well-deserved retirement.
