WHEREAS, Alice Kellam of Norfolk, a respected citizen and outstanding community supporter for many years, died on October 25, 2007; and
WHEREAS, Alice Kellam was born in Norfolk on October 5, 1921, the daughter of Alice Sautter Malbon and Philip James Malbon, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, Alice Kellam attended Saint Margaret’s School, graduated from Maury High School and Norfolk Business College, and later worked at the Texas Company in Norfolk; and
WHEREAS, Alice Kellam was the devoted wife and dedicated partner to her husband Judge Richard Boykin Kellam, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Alice Kellam was the loving and supportive mother of her sons Richard B. Kellam, Jr., and Philip J. Kellam, and her daughter, Martha K. Stone, and she cherished her grandchildren, Meade G. Stone III, Alexander C. Kellam, and Philip J. “Jay” Kellam; and
WHEREAS, supportive of her community and church, Alice Kellam was always willing to help her fellow citizens, especially young people, in any way she could; and
WHEREAS, Alice Kellam had a strong but quiet faith, was a loyal member of Nimmo United Methodist Church, and was active in the church's many missions in the community; and
WHEREAS, displaying dignity and grace, Alice Kellam lived life to the fullest, was always positive, upbeat, and a joy to be around, and she thrived in her final years as a resident at Westminster Canterbury in Virginia Beach; and
WHEREAS, an inspiration to all who knew her well, Alice Kellam will be fondly remembered for her kind and generous nature and will be greatly missed by her family, numerous friends and admirers, and the congregation of Nimmo United Methodist Church; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginian, Alice Kellam; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Alice Kellam as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
