Commending the Highland Springs High School boys' basketball team.

WHEREAS, on March 10, 2007, the Highland Springs High School boys' basketball team won the Virginia High School League Group AAA state title, the school's second state championship in five years; and

WHEREAS, the Highland Springs Springers clinched the state trophy by defeating George Washington of Danville, 79 - 52; and

WHEREAS, on its way to the state title, a determined Springers team won the Group AAA Central Regional title by triumphing over the Petersburg High School Wave in an exciting 81 - 61 victory at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Siegel Center; and

WHEREAS, high scorers in the championship games were seniors Jamar Abrams, Omar Briggs, Brandon Rozzell, and Jay Threatt; other talented members of the team that contributed to a tremendous team effort all season long were Ketron Anderson, Tony Purnell, Andrew Harrison, Harry Lee Daniel, Paul Deberry, Kierre Winfield, Harvey Mills, Michael Hubbard, Hill Devin, John Holleman, Angelo Smith, and Chris Hilliard; and

WHEREAS, the Springers were also awarded the 2007 VHSL Basketball Sportsmanship Award, which was a great honor for the basketball organization under Coach George Lancaster and all of the students at Highland Springs High School; and

WHEREAS, receiving individual state honors were Brandon Rozzell, who was chosen Associated Press Group AAA player of the year by the state's sports writers, and Jamar Abrams, who shared Associated Press Group AAA first team honors with his teammate; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2007 Springers boys' basketball team is a tribute to the dedication and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach George Lancaster and his excellent staff; and the support of the enthusiastic students, faculty, and parents of Highland Springs High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Highland Springs High School boys' basketball team on its outstanding season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach George Lancaster as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the Highland Springs High School boys' basketball team.
