2008 SESSION
WHEREAS, the Reverend Barry T. Young of Richmond, minister of Mosby Memorial Church and esteemed leader in the American Baptist Churches USA (ABCUSA), died on September 25, 2007; and
WHEREAS, Barry Young was born in Washington, D. C., the son of Clarence and Helen Young, earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Virginia Union University, and continued further study for a doctor of ministry degree at Wesley Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS, the Reverend Barry Young was the pastor of Mosby Memorial Church in Richmond and celebrated his 15th anniversary of ministry to his devoted congregation in July 2007; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Young served as the coordinator of church relations and was an adjunct instructor at the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University, teaching practical theology, denominational issues, and other religious courses; and
WHEREAS, an outstanding and inspirational Christian leader, Pastor Young was devoted to ABCUSA, and was active in many ministries on the local, state, and national levels; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Young was a valuable member of the ABCUSA general board and board of National Ministries; the Mission, Vision, and Planning Task Force; and the chair of the local arrangements committee for the 2003 biennial conference in Richmond; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Young was also active in a wide variety of community service and charitable organizations and was a leader in many professional and religious organizations; and
WHEREAS, over a long and faithful career, Pastor Young was a welcomed speaker and preacher in numerous churches at home and abroad, and he served his congregation of Mosby Memorial Church and the American Baptist Churches USA with great devotion, affection, and vision; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Young will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Dr. Mary Hunter Young, his lovely daughter Jessica, other close family members, and his numerous friends and admirers in his church and in his community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the loss of an inspirational minister and outstanding Virginian, the Reverend Barry T. Young; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of the Reverend Barry T. Young as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
