HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 595
Celebrating the life of Alec T. Monroe.

WHEREAS, Alec T. Monroe of Clifton, a respected citizen and ardent community supporter, died February 20, 2008; and

WHEREAS, born in Michigan and raised in Wisconsin, Alec Monroe served with the United States Army Security Agency in Germany and in 1963 graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor's degree in political science; and

WHEREAS, after graduating, Alec Monroe took a job with the National Photographic Interpretation Center, now the National Reconnaissance Office, and relocated to Virginia; he later joined the Central Intelligence Agency’s Office of Personnel and ultimately became a deputy director of personnel for the agency and senior intelligence service officer; and

WHEREAS, Alec Monroe retired in 1992, but did not slow down; he was very active in his community and at the time of his death was the president of the Little Rocky Run Homeowners Association; and

WHEREAS, dubbed the “Mayor” of Little Rocky Run, Alec Monroe loved talking to his neighbors and had a great talent for listening to people, figuring out their collective needs, and then pulling them together to implement a plan; and

WHEREAS, very proud of his Scottish heritage, Alec Monroe was an amateur genealogist and had compiled a database of some 3,000 names of relatives from all over the world; he was a deeply spiritual man and a devout Catholic who attended St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church; and

WHEREAS, Alec Monroe will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his three children, Anne, Craig, and James; countless other family members and friends; and especially his neighbors in Little Rocky Run; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Alec T. Monroe, a devoted public servant and an outstanding community leader; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Alec T. Monroe as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
