HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 587 Offered March 3, 2008 Commending C. Manly Rucker III. ---------- Patron-- Cline ----------

WHEREAS, C. Manly Rucker III dedicated 14 years of service to the citizens of the Town of Amherst as a member of the Amherst Town Council from 1994 to 2002 and from 2003 to 2008; and

WHEREAS, C. Manly Rucker proudly served as vice mayor of the Town of Amherst for many of those years; and

WHEREAS, C. Manly Rucker was instrumental in the development of the expanded water and waste treatment systems and the L. Barnes Brockman, Sr., Business and Industrial Park; was actively involved in the renovation of the Amherst traffic circle, which is one of only two in the state of Virginia; and has always been a strong supporter of the continued development of Amherst’s educational system; and

WHEREAS, C. Manly Rucker has operated a successful insurance agency in the Town of Amherst for 40 years; and

WHEREAS, during his service to the council, C. Manly Rucker maintained an open-door policy and was always available to the citizens of Amherst; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend C. Manly Rucker III for his many years of service on the Amherst Town Council; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to C. Manly Rucker III as an expression of the General Assembly’s recognition of his commitment to the citizens of the Town of Amherst and best wishes for continued success in the future.
