HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 581 Commending the Amherst County High School football team.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 5, 2008 Agreed to by the Senate, March 6, 2008

 

WHEREAS, the Amherst County High School football team won the Virginia High School League Group AA, Division 4 state championship against Sherando High School at Williams Stadium at Liberty University on December 8, 2007; and

WHEREAS, the Amherst County High School Lancers football team defeated Sherando High School, from Frederick County, by a score of 56-10; and

WHEREAS, the Amherst County High School football team relied on its solid defense and explosive offense, leading to back-to-back state championship victories in 2006 and 2007; and

WHEREAS, the 2007 Lancers football team completed an undefeated season by compiling a record of 14-0, the first in the school’s 50-year history; and

WHEREAS, led by Head Coach Scott Abell and a talented and committed staff of assistant coaches and managers, the outstanding performance of the 2007 Amherst County High School Lancers football team is a tribute to the talents, dedication, and perseverance of the players; and

WHEREAS, the ongoing support and enthusiasm of the students, parents, faculty, and staff of Amherst County High School, as well as the entire Amherst County community, encouraged the football team members to continue their pursuit of the state title; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Amherst County High School football team on winning the 2007 Group AA, Division 4 state football championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Scott Abell, the assistant coaches, and the team members as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the commitment, dedication, and hard work of the Amherst County High School football team.
