Commending the Virginia World War II Heritage Alliance.

WHEREAS, World War II had a great impact on citizens from all walks of life in the United States, in the Allied nations, and in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the willingness of citizens to answer freedom’s call manifested itself in unparalleled service and sacrifice on the home front and on the front lines; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s sons and daughters entered the army and naval services, and other Virginians contributed to the Allied victory through their service to a broad range of civilian undertakings on behalf of the war effort; and

WHEREAS, the heritage of that collective effort is honored and preserved at World War II museums and memorials across the Commonwealth, including the George C. Marshall Museum in Lexington, the Douglas MacArthur Memorial in Norfolk, the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, the Virginia War Memorial and the Virginia Holocaust Museum in Richmond, and the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico; and

WHEREAS, attracting and serving visitors from around Virginia, the nation, and the world, these museums and memorials have established the Virginia World War II Heritage Alliance to buttress and enhance the educational and memorial efforts of its members; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Virginia World War II Heritage Alliance and its partners for their many efforts to pursue successful strategies to sustain and increase visitation, promote the mutual reinforcement of educational programming, and encourage economy of resources; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the members of the Virginia World War II Heritage Alliance in honor of its continual commitment to the preservation and celebration of the rich history of World War II.
