2008 SESSION
089294676WHEREAS, the Rotary Clubs of Hanover and Mechanicsville and their outstanding members have spent hundreds of volunteer hours building Operation Hope playgrounds in Hanover County; and
WHEREAS, in Central Virginia, there are very few all-inclusive playgrounds that address the needs of the intellectually and physically disabled; and
WHEREAS, the mission of Operation Hope is to build playgrounds that will be all-inclusive to children, regardless of their abilities, and fill a gap in the community’s current recreational offerings and inspire surrounding localities to do the same; and
WHEREAS, dedicated volunteers of the Rotary Clubs of Hanover and Mechanicsville have come together to build the Operation Hope playgrounds, and individuals, companies, civic organizations, and local government have partnered to pay for the construction; and
WHEREAS, 2,500 children are served by the Operation Hope facilities; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Rotary Clubs of Hanover and Mechanicsville for their excellent work on Operation Hope in the construction of playgrounds for disabled children; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Rotary Clubs of Hanover and Mechanicsville as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of their commitment to disabled children and their continued service to the citizens of the Commonwealth.
