WHEREAS, Sharon Ann Crouch Steidel, Director of Information Systems of the House of Delegates of Virginia, is serving as the staff chair officer of the Executive Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) for the conference year 2007 - 2008; and
WHEREAS, NCSL is a bipartisan organization that serves the legislatures of the nation’s 50 states, providing research, technical assistance, and opportunities for legislative members and staff to share resources regarding current and emerging state issues; the executive committee meets four times a year, is the governing body of NCSL, and has 60 elected members with seven serving as officers; and
WHEREAS, Sharon Crouch Steidel began her distinguished career with the House of Delegates of Virginia in 1975, becoming a full-time employee in 1983 when she created the first Information Systems department for the House of Delegates; and
WHEREAS, Sharon Crouch Steidel served as chair of the National Association of Legislative Information Technology (NALIT), a staff section of NCSL, in 1999 - 2000, served as cochair of the NCSL Multistate Legislative Document Management Project in 2000, and served as a consultant to NCSL on various technical assistance projects; and
WHEREAS, Sharon Crouch Steidel received the NCSL Legislative Staff Achievement Award for her work in the House of Delegates of Virginia and her service to NALIT in 2001; and
WHEREAS, due to her vast experience in state government, information technology, and her remarkable leadership ability, Sharon Crouch Steidel has served on key NCSL committees, such as the Executive Committee and the Legislative Staff Coordinating Committee, and among her most notable achievements are her longtime support of state legislative organizations and the generous contribution of her time and considerable talents to their activities; and
WHEREAS, Sharon Crouch Steidel is committed to excellence in state government and will serve NCSL with great skill and integrity; her superb leadership on behalf of the state legislatures brings welcome recognition to the House of Delegates of Virginia and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly congratulate Sharon Ann Crouch Steidel on her selection as the staff chair officer of the Executive Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sharon Ann Crouch Steidel as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for her devotion to the House of Delegates of Virginia and her outstanding service to state legislatures across the nation.
