Commending Robert C. Gibbons.

WHEREAS, Robert C. Gibbons served on the Stafford County Board of Supervisors for four terms, from 1992 to 2008, representing the Rock Hill District; and

WHEREAS, in his 16 years as a supervisor, Robert C. “Bob” Gibbons saw Stafford County undergo enormous growth, and he used his expertise and vision to help manage that growth and make it beneficial for county residents and businesses; and

WHEREAS, Robert C. Gibbons first joined the board of supervisors out of concern for the county school system, and he lobbied hard for increased funding for construction of new schools to keep up with the county’s population growth; and

WHEREAS, transportation was another top priority for Robert C. Gibbons; he was instrumental in the success of several road and rail projects and has served on various transportation boards, including the Northern Virginia Transportation Coordination Committee, and is chairman and a founding member of the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission; and

WHEREAS, Robert C. Gibbons is very proud of the increase in public services in Stafford County, such as the creation of a fire and rescue department, and Stafford County’s success in attracting major businesses, thus creating many jobs within the county so that more residents can work closer to home; and

WHEREAS, prior to his service on the Stafford County Board of Supervisors, Robert C. Gibbons served as a member of the Prince William County Mass Transportation Committee from 1970 to 1975 and the Stafford County Planning Commission from 1982 to 1991; and

WHEREAS, for 20 years Robert C. Gibbons faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force before retiring in 1975; and

WHEREAS, colleagues on the Stafford County Board of Supervisors and around the county praise Robert C. Gibbons’ strong negotiating skills, his historical knowledge of county issues, and his dedication to his constituents; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Robert C. Gibbons on his exemplary service as a member of the Stafford County Board of Supervisors and to the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robert C. Gibbons as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for his commitment to the citizens of Stafford County and the Commonwealth.
