Commending the ACCESS College Foundation on the occasion of its 20th anniversary.

WHEREAS, the ACCESS College Foundation was cofounded by Frank Batten, Sr., and Joshua P. Darden, Jr., in 1988 to assist students in the South Hampton Roads area further their educational endeavors beyond high school; and

WHEREAS, at the program’s inception, the ACCESS College Foundation served students in five local high schools in Norfolk; and

WHEREAS, currently, the ACCESS College Foundation advisors diligently serve 29 public high schools in South Hampton Roads; and

WHEREAS, over 60,000 students have received the services provided by the ACCESS College Foundation and the program’s advisors have assisted a portion of these students access to more than $176 million in financial aid; and

WHEREAS, the ACCESS College Foundation has provided more than $3.7 million in "Last Dollar Award" scholarships to more than 4,000 students, making numerous educational opportunities available; and

WHEREAS, the ACCESS College Foundation is funded through generous private donations from companies and individuals who understand the importance of education; and

WHEREAS, the donors to the ACCESS College Foundation are making a difference in the lives of students throughout South Hampton Roads; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the ACCESS College Foundation on the occasion of its 20th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the ACCESS College Foundation as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of the foundation's dedication to education and best wishes for continued success in the future.
