2008 SESSION
089210756WHEREAS, Anita Renee Ricks, a senior point guard for the Southampton High School girls’ basketball team, scored her 1,000th career point on February 19, 2008; and
WHEREAS, Anita Ricks achieved this milestone in only three years as a varsity player, scoring 289 points her sophomore year, 301 points her junior year, and 410 points so far in her senior year, as of that key game on February 19; and
WHEREAS, during her career, Anita Ricks has been the Bay Rivers District season scoring leader once and has been ranked among the top five district scorers for two years, and as a senior she has averaged 17.9 points per game; and
WHEREAS, Anita Ricks has been named to All-District teams twice and once received an honorable mention at the district level; at Southampton High School, she has been named the coach’s most valuable player and rookie of the year, and she has received the Coach’s Award; and
WHEREAS, a valuable leader on and off the basketball court, Anita Ricks has played for the Southampton High School softball team and been a member of Students Against Drunk Driving and the Varsity Club; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Anita Renee Ricks on her outstanding achievements with the Southampton High School girls’ basketball team; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Anita Renee Ricks as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her accomplishments as a student athlete and best wishes for continued success.
