084870492WHEREAS, the women and men of the Alexandria Gay and Lesbian Community Association (AGLCA) are recognized for their commitment to improving the Alexandria community through its leadership, education programs, and public service; and
WHEREAS, AGLCA’s mission is to monitor civic, legislative, and judicial systems in order to achieve and maintain equal legal and societal status for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and trans-gender (GLBT) persons; increase members’ awareness of issues that impact the lives of GLBT persons; provide opportunities for social interaction and networking; educate the community at large on GLBT issues to foster understanding and acceptance; represent the concerns and interests of the GLBT community to state and local governmental authorities; and to support GLBT persons in their involvement with and public service to the Alexandria community; and
WHEREAS, AGLCA is integrated into the Alexandria community, volunteering and participating in many civic organizations and activities, such as the Adopt-a-Block program and collecting toys for children in need; and
WHEREAS, AGLCA Scholarship Fund awards an annual scholarship to a college-bound high school senior in the Alexandria City Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, AGLCA has made exceptional contributions to openness, diversity, and safety in the community of Alexandria; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Alexandria Gay and Lesbian Community Association on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Alexandria Gay and Lesbian Community Association as an expression of the General Assembly’s best wishes for continued success.
