WHEREAS, Carole Lopez served the Arlington community and the Arlington Public Schools for over 20 years as an outstanding guidance counselor at Washington-Lee High School; and
WHEREAS, in her work as a counselor, Carole Lopez always tried to understand what motivates each of her students, as well as discover their strengths and desires; and
WHEREAS, a mentor and great supporter of young people, Carole Lopez is an excellent communicator, who easily established rapport with the students during their high school years; and
WHEREAS, as an enthusiastic and knowledgeable advocate for students and parents, Carole Lopez coordinated culturally relevant and appropriate information sessions and diligently worked to place students in intellectually demanding academic courses; and
WHEREAS, Carole Lopez helped more than 2,000 students apply to colleges, and due to her hard work and commitment, many minority and recent immigrant students were inspired to continue their education beyond high school; and
WHEREAS, an inspiration to all of her fellow educators, Carole Lopez is greatly admired for her selflessness, incredible resilience, and sincere commitment to her students and the importance of their education; she came out of medical retirement to work at Washington-Lee High School for several years before again retiring due to illness; and
WHEREAS, throughout her career, Carole Lopez’s compassion, dedication, and thoughtful guidance touched the lives of thousands of students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Carole Lopez on her outstanding career as a guidance counselor at Washington-Lee High School; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Carole Lopez as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for her commitment to the students and parents of Arlington and best wishes for a happy and restful retirement.
