HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 510
Commending the Deep Run High School girls' volleyball team.

WHEREAS, the Deep Run High School girls' volleyball team capped an outstanding season by winning the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Group AAA state volleyball championship at Virginia Commonwealth University's Siegel Center on November 15, 2007; and

WHEREAS, the Deep Run High School Wildcats were victorious over the Langley High School Saxons, becoming the first team in VHSL history to win consecutive titles since the state tournament began in the early 1990s; and

WHEREAS, it was the third year that the Wildcats have won the state title match and their motto, "Winning takes talent; to repeat takes character," motivated the players to work hard to win a berth in the tournament this year; and

WHEREAS, overcoming many obstacles and defeating some excellent teams along the way, the Deep Run High School girls' volleyball team repeated as state champions with only one senior, so the team will be a formidable opponent again next season, and the girls were especially proud of their graduating teammate Alyssa Lang, who received Colonial District co-player of the year honors; and

WHEREAS, in a show of skill and perseverance in the exciting three-game match, Alyssa Lang had 12 kills, 16 digs, and six aces; junior Meghann Forshey had 10 kills, three blocks, and 15 digs; junior Lindsey McClellan had 29 assists and eight digs; and sophomore Mallory Woolridge had seven kills and two blocks; and

WHEREAS, other enthusiastic members of the Wildcats who made outstanding contributions to a great team effort all season are Callie Armistead, Erin Anderson, Kelly Hulihan, Allyson Fleming, Lindsay Hass, Suzy Rosser, Lauren McDaniel, Chaney LaReau, and Ashley Dintaman; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2007 Wildcats girls' volleyball team is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Terra Balla and her staff; and the support of the students and faculty of Deep Run High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Wildcats from Deep Run High School on their Group AAA volleyball state title; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Terra Balla as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the 2007 Deep Run High School girls' volleyball team.
