WHEREAS, Irvine Byrd Hill of Norfolk has been the outstanding host of the Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association’s Cable Reports from the Virginia General Assembly for 17 years; and

WHEREAS, the Cable Reports from the Virginia General Assembly is organized, produced, and distributed as a public service by the Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association (VCTA) and aired by cable television systems for viewing by citizens across the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, in the past year alone, Irvine Hill and the VCTA taped 60 television shows, which included over 150 appearances by members of the General Assembly; and

WHEREAS, over the past 17 years, Irvine Hill has hosted a total of more than 1,000 30-minute cable television programs with Virginia’s legislators; and

WHEREAS, lauded as the “Voice of Hampton Roads,” Irvine Hill was inducted into the Virginia Cable Hall of Fame in 2003 for his many contributions to the cable telecommunications industry and VCTA; and

WHEREAS, a great community supporter, Irvine Hill is well-known for his dedicated service as former mayor of Norfolk and was honored as First Citizen of Norfolk in 2001; and

WHEREAS, Irvine Hill currently serves as the president of the Economics Club of Hampton Roads and is a member of the Chesapeake Bay Commission; and

WHEREAS, Irvine Hill is devoted to the Navy League, is an enthusiastic advocate for the men and women in uniform who live in Hampton Roads, and is the distinguished recipient of the Secretary of the Navy’s Meritorious Service Award and Superior Service Award; and

WHEREAS, committed to the well-being of his community and the Commonwealth, Irvine Hill has been an asset in increasing citizen involvement in and understanding of Virginia’s state government; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Irvine Byrd Hill as the outstanding host of Cable Reports from the Virginia General Assembly for 17 years; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Irvine Byrd Hill as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his many achievements and his commitment to the citizens of Norfolk and the Commonwealth.
