HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 499
Commending the Riverbend High School girls' soccer team.

WHEREAS, the Riverbend High School girls’ soccer team won the Virginia High School League Group AA state soccer championship on June 9, 2007; and

WHEREAS, the Riverbend Bears, from Spotsylvania County, defeated Courtland High School, 2 - 0, in the state final to end the season with a perfect 23 - 0 record and bring home the school’s first state championship in any sport only three years after the school opened its doors; and

WHEREAS, led by seniors Bailey Wilcox and Carly Sullivan, the young Riverbend squad played with tenacity all season, determined to improve upon their semifinal appearance in the 2006 state tournament; and

WHEREAS, in the championship game, Bailey Wilcox scored both of Riverbend’s goals, one in the first half and one in the second half, and as the game wound down, the Bears prepared for a major celebration; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the 2007 Riverbend girls’ soccer team is a tribute to the talent, commitment, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Becca Berry and her staff; and the support of the parents, students, and faculty of Riverbend High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Bears from Riverbend High School on their outstanding 2007 season and Group AA state title; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Becca Berry as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the Riverbend High School girls’ soccer team.
