Celebrating the life of Sergeant Dustin John Perrott.

WHEREAS, United States Army Sergeant Dustin John Perrott died on June 21, 2007, while serving his country in Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, a native of Fredericksburg, Sergeant Perrott graduated from Chancellor High School in 2003 and enlisted in the Army in 2004; and

WHEREAS, a paratrooper with the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Sergeant Perrott had served in Iraq during a previous deployment; and

WHEREAS, during his career, Sergeant Perrott received many awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Infantryman's Badge, and Parachutist Badge; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Perrott loved skydiving and had often jumped with the elite Army Golden Knights team while working on his civilian skydiving skills; he was also an amateur drummer who could hear a song once and then play it perfectly; and

WHEREAS, called the “Gentle Giant” by friends and family because of his great stature, his immeasurable kindness, and his bright smile, Sergeant Perrott will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Anna Marie; his mother and stepfather, Susan and John; his sister, Angeline, and her husband; his grandmother, Martha; his half sisters, Wanda and Susan; his half brother, Robert; and many other family members and friends; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Perrott’s death is a reminder of the perils faced daily by the thousands of Americans who serve in our armed forces overseas and whose devotion to duty places them in harm's way; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Sergeant Dustin John Perrott, a courageous and patriotic Virginian; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sergeant Dustin John Perrott as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of the Commonwealth.
